What we collect
You can use the whole database without signing in. There is no account. We only get personal information if you choose to send it, plus the usual technical leftovers a website needs to stay up.
Things you send us
If you email Contact@useful.gg, we see whatever you put in that message. That is usually an address, a name if you include one, and the thing you wanted to tell us. We do not collect sensitive categories of information such as health, biometrics, or precise geolocation.
Things the browser sends anyway
Like most sites, the host sees technical details when a page loads: IP address, browser and device type, language, referring page, and roughly which pages were opened. That helps us keep Useful.gg working and catch abuse. We do not run a separate analytics product on top of those host logs.
Votes and local storage
A rating is remembered in this browser. The totals live with the catalog entry. You do not need an account to vote.
Community ratings on vehicles, weapons, characters, and radio tracks store your last vote in this browser with local storage, under keys such as useful_vehicle_vote:. A random voter key, useful_voter_key, is stored in the same browser so one person gets one vote per day, and a later vote the same day can replace it. Vote totals are stored on our side so the bar on a page is real.
Clearing site data in the browser forgets that key and the saved votes on that device. Totals already counted stay with the entry.
How we use it
To run the database, keep the votes honest, and reply when you write in.
- Keep Useful.gg online and reasonably secure.
- Read host logs so we spend time on the pages people actually open.
- Count community votes and limit obvious repeat voting.
- Answer emails you send us.
- Follow the law if we are ever required to.
If you are in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or Canada
Where those privacy laws apply, we rely on:
- Consent — when you email us, you are asking us to read that message and reply.
- Legitimate interests — running, securing, and improving a public game database, including host logs and vote integrity, in ways that should not override your rights.
- Legal obligation — if the law says we have to keep or disclose something.
In Canada we may also rely on implied consent for information that is reasonably expected when you visit a public website, and express consent when you email us.
Links to other sites
We link out to Rockstar, official posts, and other useful pages. Once you leave Useful.gg, their privacy rules apply, not ours. A link is not an endorsement, and we cannot promise what those sites do with your data.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for running and securing the site, then deleted or aggregated. Emails stick around as long as the conversation is still relevant. Vote totals stay with the database entry they belong to. When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or strip it of identity.
How we try to keep it safe
We use ordinary, reasonable technical and organisational measures for a small independent site. No website on the internet is perfectly safe. Treat public Wi-Fi and shared computers accordingly.
Under 18
Useful.gg is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, email Contact@useful.gg and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask what we have, fix it, delete it, or object to certain uses. For this site, that almost always means emailing us.
In the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Canada, and several US states, that can include access, correction, deletion, restriction, and portability. We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We will not treat you worse for asking.
Most browsers let you clear site data. Doing that forgets the voter key and the saved votes in this browser. The public vote totals already stored with an entry stay put.
Do Not Track
Browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. There is still no single agreed way for sites to honour it, so Useful.gg does not respond to DNT today. We also do not run an analytics product that would follow you across the web. If a Do Not Track standard settles, we will say so here.
US state privacy rights
If your state has a consumer privacy law (California, Virginia, and others), you may have the right to know whether we process your personal data, access it, correct it, delete it, get a copy of what you gave us, opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data, and not be discriminated against for asking. We do not sell personal information and we do not run targeted ads. Email Contact@useful.gg and say what you need.
When this page changes
We will update this notice when the site or the law makes that necessary. The “Last updated” line at the top is the date that matters.
